Hourly cleaning: agree on the rooms and where to start

The guests have left, but the kitchen and floor still need cleaning. Before offering to help, use these guides to ask what matters most, what equipment is available and which rooms and cleaning are included.

What should I ask before offering hourly cleaning?

"Clean the kitchen" could mean the worktop, inside the cupboards or the floor. Ask what is included, what condition it is in and where to start. Find out which rooms and belongings should be left alone. Then you can decide whether it is cleaning you know how to do.

Describe the cleaning you've done: which areas and surfaces you know, and what you'd like to see first. Those details help someone understand what you can offer and ask about anything missing. You don't need to offer every kind of cleaning.

How do I agree on what is included?

Choose the priorities together and agree on who supplies equipment. Sorting papers or reorganising a cupboard isn't the same as cleaning its surfaces. Ask before moving personal items. If a new request comes up, discuss it before adding it to what you agreed.

Post-renovation cleaning, unfamiliar surfaces and work at height need appropriate assessment and are outside this guide. Stick to the cleaning you know. The guide to hourly cleaning work covers more questions about rooms, equipment and what to agree beforehand.
