Dog walking: before you head out

Before walking someone else's dog, learn its routine and check that the walk fits your experience. These guides cover what to ask the owner and how to agree on the handover.

What should I ask before walking a dog?

Knowing the route is a start. Think about which dogs you've walked, how you learned their routines and when you needed help. Ask the owner about a usual outing, the equipment and how the dog responds to people or other dogs. You need those details to decide whether you can take on this particular walk.

Plan the beginning and end, too. Agree on who hands over the dog, who takes it back and how you'll contact the owner if something changes. Leave time to meet the dog first. If an important detail is unclear, ask before agreeing so you won't have to guess during the walk.

What can I read before my first walk?

The guide to dog walking in Tel Aviv covers experience, the dog's routine and the handover. Use it to think about the walks you can offer and the questions you still need to discuss with the owner.

These guides cover walks. Training, hosting and veterinary care need a separate discussion. When you write about your experience, keep the owner's contact details, home-access information and private photos out of your examples.
